“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.”

-Mr. Rogers

At Faith Lutheran Preschool we believe that children learn naturally through their play. Our play-based program
builds on this belief, using play as a context for learning. Through play children learn many different skills they will
need in their life such as:

  • Problem solving and learning cause and effect

  • Learning how to play with others through compromise, conflict resolution and sharing

  • Development of fine and gross motor skills

  • Nurturing their creativity and imagination

  • Discovering their independence and develop positive self-esteem

Preschool years are the key developmental period for social learning and so we also focus on social skills taught through our virtues program. Our teachers nurture children into advanced social thoughts and behaviours through spontaneous and specific play

or situations. Our program teaches children to:

  • Identify and express their own personal feelings

  • Identify and appropriately respond to the feelings of others

  • Enter play situations successfully

  • Resolve conflicts without always needing the assistance of an adult

  • Believe they can and should be friends with everybody

  • Some of the virtues included are thankfulness, friendship, helpfulness, encouragement, kindness, respect, self-control and conscience.
